Cole's Bowling Party

Thankfully this year Colton requested a bowling party for his birthday.  He certainly is his momma's boy!

This year I invited everyone to bowl, and although most did, everyone was excited to be there to celebrate with him.

After a few games of glow bowl, we headed into the party room for pizza and cake.

Then it was time for some presents.  He received so many gifts this year from our overly generous family and friends.  They included a Tiger's bag chair, various sports team shirts, Nerf disc thrower, Beyblades, Legos, Hot Wheels, Madden 2013 for Xbox, TONS of Gifts Cards and Ca$$$$h.  He was beyond thrilled with everything.

The two hours flew by and before I knew it, our fun had to end.  I didn't let them get away without one last shot!

The great thing about bowling, it is good for the young and old alike.  Honestly I'm not sure who had more fun, the adults or the kids!

[Gurlee]Girrl Friday

Happy Friday!!! So glad that I made it through another week.  All in all, it's been a good week.

For starters, I did accomplish my ombre nail attempt.  If you look really close, you can tell that yes indeed there are two shades of pink:

Achieving this look took me forever, and several attempts.  You MUST let coats dry in between or your make-up sponge will crease/smear/smudge your polish.  It really is quite a few layers.

I wanted to spice it up with some hearts or a design, but after spending all the time on it, I didn't want to cover it up. LOL

Once I tired of that look, I decided to go darker:

Makes me think of St. Paddy's Day.  I love it.

Now on to some randomness:

On Wednesday night, I grabbed Jenny Jenny and we hit the 10pm premier of Safe Haven.  OMG - I LOVED this movie.  Or should I say - I LOVED Josh Duhamel.  I had not read the book, so I wasn't sure of where the story would go, and being a Nicholas Sparks book, it doesn't always have a happy ending.  Of course I cried, as parts of the story hit home with me, but I walked away pleased.  I may or may not have eaten a bag of popcorn and box of Sno-Caps.  But I won't tell.

Thursday was my sweet baby boy's birthday, as well as Valentine's Day.  We had volleyball and basketball practice scheduled for the evening, so I tried to make them happy for dinner, and bought them each a heart shaped pizza.  They loved it.  It was so cute, I wish I had one too!

For those Walking Dead fans out there, what did you think of this weeks episode?  I certainly was disappointed in it.  I mean, in a show where there are so many things going on all the time, this one just fell flat.  Did you know there is a Walking Dead App for your iPhone?  It was free and it is fun to mess around with.  How do I look?

Beautiful huh?

And with that, enjoy your weekend!

Hearts on Valentine's Day

First Happy Valentine's Day to all my blog friends!! Hope you spend it doing exactly what you desire!

Second, when I saw this Pin on Pinterest, I fell in love.

I was determined to make one as equally awesome, and here is my attempt:

Supplies:

Canvas ($9.99 for 2)
Assorted Buttons ($9 total for both containers)
Red Burlap ($1.50 for 1/2 yard - only need a small amount)
Black Paint ($1)
Foam Painter ($0.50)
Glue Gun
Scissors
Heart Template

A few tips:

The black stripes takes at least 2-3 coats for good coverage.  The canvas absorbed the paint.

I laid out the buttons first, then glued them down.  When you "lay" yours out - have your heart already placed on the canvas.  When I transferred it, I had to re-do it since they slid all over the place.

For "Love", I used stencils and a black Sharpie.  The "Pinned" version called for vinyl letters, but they were just too costly for me.

And my masterpiece:

Yes, I am in love with it.

And because today is Valentine's Day, I have one more Pinterest success.  My daughter requested heart braids this morning.  As we all know, I have ZERO skills when it comes to doing hair.  Until I found this:

Doable?  I think so:

Hey, it might not be perfect, but she loved it!  Score 1 for mom!

And lastly, today my little Valentine baby turns 8 years old.  I want to wish my cuddle buddy a very happy birthday and wanted to let him know that nothing makes me happier than being his (and Ashley's) momma.  I have been truly blessed.  I hope he has an amazing day and even better year!

[Gurlee]Girrl Friday

It's Friday, it snowed last night, and I'm snuggled up on the couch with my Boo:

This week I've done nails a few time.  It started with my Super Bowl mani:

Then I updated it for Valentine's Day:

And spent some time making Ashley happy too:

Looking forward to trying out a new technique for next week - maybe Ombre?

Now on to some randomness:

I tried my hand at cooking again yesterday.  First I chopped up everything, even learned how to press garlic!

Then I spilled boiling water all over my hand!

I'm done cooking for awhile.

Stopped at Walmart and seen these:

Took every ounce of control to NOT take these home.  Instead, I grabbed these:

Keeping the bag closed, because once I open it, watch out.

Already had a super exciting morning - watched Nashville, The Vampire Diaries and guess where I'll be going May 22?

That's right to see Fall Out Boy!!! They "reunited" this week with the news of a new album release and tour. I CAN NOT WAIT!!! Took forever to get my order to get through.  I was totally having major anxiety attack, but I kept at it and scored my tickets.  First FOB, then NKOTB and finally Kenny Chesney - summer is looking read good!

Hope everyone has a safe and awesome weekend!!

Sometimes It All About the Kids

Sometimes there are nights where I get to do the things that I want, like go to the gym, read a book, watch my TV shows or even nap on the couch.  Then there are the days that it's all about the kids.  Last night was one of those nights.

The snow started to fall around 4:45pm, just in time for me to drive home in it.  It wasn't too bad, but I knew that I for sure did not want to leave the house.  When I got home, dinner was ready (corned beef and cabbage leftovers in the crock pot).   Ash was of course "starving", and since this is her new favorite meal, she was bugging me right away to serve her up a plate.

I grabbed a plate and opened the crock pot to discover that there were only 5 pieces of corned beef left.  Now when I checked it on Monday, there were definitely more.  She must have "snuck" some pieces after it was put away.  Anyways, she asked for 3 pieces.  Of course I will never deprive my child of food, and if she asked for more, I would have given it all to her.  Cole would only take 1 piece, as he isn't thrilled with it.  So that left 1 tiny, sliver of a piece for me.  There were more than enough carrots and cabbage to go around, but really, you can only eat so much of that.  Needless to say, I finished dinner and was still kind of hungry, but being on a "diet" and all, I figured I'd survive.  The main thing was they both cleaned their plates.

As soon as the dishes were put away, Colton was excited to play his "Word Bingo" he brought home as homework for reading class.  Of course they both enjoyed playing, and I think we spent at least 45 minutes playing game after game of bingo.  Would it end after someone bingo'd?  No, they both had to bingo multiple times before they felt a game was over.  Seeing their sheer happiness made it worth it though.

After we finished bingo, Colton then had his "reading" book homework, which was a book about Bats.  Funny thing is, I found it super interesting.  I didn't know there were bats that looked like foxes?!?!

We also had to finish reading his library selection for the week which was Judy Blume's Freckle Juice.  I remember reading this book as a kid.  It was nice to see him excited and interested in the book too.  We took turns reading, and I'm amazed how much of a better reader he has become since the beginning of school.  Seeing how much he enjoys reading, I know he will catch up and excel in no time.

Once we were finished reading, Ash then demanded some "mom" time and asked if I would paint her nails.  Sure why not?  Of course she didn't just want a single color, she wanted me to paint the Despicable Me Minions on her nails?!?!  Oh goodness.  Of course I accepted the challenge and am happy to report that SHE was very impressed and excited with the results.

While I was painting her nails, Colton asked if they could eat the rest of the chips and dip.  Ash freaked out that her nails were wet and couldn't exactly eat chips and dip.  She somehow talked her brother into feeding her dipped chips!  For two kids that are constantly bickering, it was extremely funny and heartwarming to see him feeding her!!!  I wish I could have snapped a photo of it, but I was in the middle of painting Minions, and just didn't think to do it.

Finally I had a free moment to myself.  I was jealous of their chips and dip and decided that I too deserved some sort of "snack".  I grabbed a banana and sliced it up and drizzled some sunflower seed butter on them.  Talk about HEAVEN.  I just found my new favorite go-to snack. Unfortunately, Ash decided she liked my new snack too and started stealing them. She even requested them for breakfast!

All in all, I'd have to say it was a pretty perfect night.

[Gurlee]Girrl Friday

Linking up again with Tara and Vicki for:

This week I played around with two new colors I bought while Zoya was running their free polish special last month.  Basically, you could get 3 bottles of polish for $10 (the cost of shipping).  I had never used Zoya before, so I figured I'd give it a try.

The two I tried this week were:

I also used Megan as a base too.  Which do you like better?

Now on to some Friday randomness:

  • Can't say I'm excited about the Superbowl, but I can say I am excited about having some good "bad" food on Sunday.
  • Super excited to bowl tomorrow night.  It feels like forever since I've been.
  • Looking forward to getting a haircut this weekend, although it doesn't look all that bad right this second.  If I don't get it done this weekend, I know Monday will be a very bad hair day.
  • For those of you who go to the gym, do you do more weight lifting or cardio or even split?  I really want to know what you think gets the best results?
With that, I'm wrapping this up for the weekend!  Hope everyone has a safe & fun one!
